Post2Peer WordPress plugin
Post2Peer is a WordPress-based technology that permits blogmasters to share and exchange links to their posts based on common taxonomy, across their blogs (ie. posts having the same tags or categories). Each link is automatically associated to a thumbnail image.
The Post2Peer Widget (beta version) is the first of a series of WordPress utilities and tools that blog author will be able to use to dig in the Post2Peer posts and sites open directory. It will automatically display in a sidebar widget a list of links towards blog posts sharing the same subject published on other WordPress blogs.
Amongst the upcoming tools, a thumbnail-enriched custom RSS feeds widget will permit webmasters to display any other blog’s RSS feeds with the same display features as the Post2Peer Widget and YD Recent Posts Widget (including automatic thumbnail generation for every post, even if the originating blog feed did not include thumbnails or images)
The Post2Peer.com posts and sites open directory is a web database that automatically records links, thumbnail, posts excerpts and author information of all member blogs.
It offers a keywords and taxonomy-based search interface with access to custom RSS fields. It will soon have a focused blog search engine based on blog content, keywords and technology.
It will support content in all languages (at least those used on the web 😉 ).
The whole project is still under heavy development. The first tools are being released to the public as beta versions as soon as they are functional enough to be actually used on a WordPress blog (like this one). Constructive feedback is welcome.
To be enrolled in beta-testing stages, or to have your blog registered in the Post2Peer Directory, please leave a comment on this page or on the Post2Peer.com site. An online registration form should soon be available.

Worked on one page but linked to porn on another.What do I enter at ‘Link” and ‘Text’ in the options so line 449 in the php knows what to do ?
le 3 June 2009 à 23:18 h
@Bill: Thanks for this first feedback!
I’ll work a way to get rid of the porn ASAP. In the meantime, setting “minimum number of links” to zero can avoid getting anything that’s not tagged like your page (OK, then you probably won’t get much right now if you don’t have very popular tags like “news”…)
For the ‘Link’ and ‘Text’ I should make that completely optional (I thought it was already… did you get an error or something? Just don’t fill anything in and you should get the default “powered by” link.)
I’ll probably issue the first fix as soon as tomorrow, so hang on there, this thing has only been tested on a handful of blogs up to now.

Version 0.2 was just released. Please upgrade to get a better configuration panel. In addition, the Post2peer directory feed now has a switchable “antiporn” filter activated by default.

Hello,
I like the plugin but when I click a member link they do not have the widget on their site. How is that possible?
My understanding is that all members have to display the widget for it to work.
Apart from that, I love it.

PS
most of them only display banner and no content

@Mark:
In fact, most of the present “member sites” are not yet active community users: the plugin has only be available for about 3 days. It’s growing fast (172 downloads already), but we need thousand of member posts to get a chance of finding any common interests in the content.
Here’s my little secret: to kick-start the content sharing system, I had to “force-enroll” about 350 sites among the users of my other plugins a few weeks in advance.
Now, the database is scanning about 1500 sites/day and indexes more than 15000 posts in a dozen languages… Let it grow a bit more, and you’ll see more and more active users installing the plugin (hopefully!)
Anyways, thanks for participating and sharing your feedback, I really hope this will become something great thanks to people like you!

Good idea, but 90% of the links were in Spanish. I ditched the widget ASAP!

@Barry:
You wouldn’t believe how many WP sites out there have their language settings wrongly set or not set at all. This will eventually force me to use language detection routines to check the language of every post with heuristics (the way Google does it). That said, you must have gotten unlucky because more than 90% of what I see in the English section is indeed in English (and 90% of the overall content is in English anyways). Thanks for the feedback. I’ll be working on improving language detection accuracy.

I like this concept, except, I don’t want to have your database choose my related sites. Is it possible to create an exclusive list of network sites only? Say I have 10 domains, all serving related content. I only want to show related articles to these network sites. We would need a filter to “return results only from these sites” [domain_list]
Any thoughts on this, Yann? Many thanks for an inovative idea!

@Richard:
Thanks for the encouragements. As a matter of fact, I am working on this concept of choosing/registering/agregating your own selection of sites/rss feeds. This should be version 2 of the plugin. But right now I still have some work to do on performance and reliability issues of the beta version. So hang on a bit more and you should get something very close to what you suggested 😉

Yann, first, thanks for your quick reply and also thanks for the possibility of creating site filters in version 2. I’m looking forward to it! Meanwhile good luck with the development and feedback. I think this plugin is an important contribution to social networking.

@All: This project has officially become obsolete and is not maintained anymore. Thanks to all for you interest.
