YD Zoomify
This WordPress plugin allows for simple insertion of a Zoomify zoomable web image in a post content, page or template.
Zoomify express is a free technology based on Flash: http://www.zoomify.com/
However, the WordPress content editor tends to break the Flash inclusion code (it deletes the needed parameters).
This plugin is a simple way to get around this problem and insert zoomable image code that will display perfectly with all Flash-supporting browsers.

Thank you for your plugin. However I wasn’t succesful…
I followed this :
1. Unzip yd-zoomify.zip OK
2. Upload the yd-zoomify directory and all its contents into the /wp-content/plugins/ directory OK
3. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress OK
4. Goto http://www.zoomify.com/ and download their free “zoomifyer” utility OK
5. use the zoomifyer on any web image to generate the zoom data directory (THERE I PUT MY PIC jiunuit.jpg ON ZOOMIFY CONVERTER EXE, AND IT GENERATED A jiunuit FOLDER CONTAINING TILEGROUP0 AND IMAGEPROPERTIES.XML)
6. upload the zoom data directory somewhere on your blog, write down the URL (I UPLOADED THE FOLDER jiunuit TO /superprofenchine.com/wp/wp-content/pics AND ALSO UPLOADED TO THE SAME PLACE templatewebpage.htm (in which I changed the name to VALUE=”zoomifyImagePath=jiunuit”> and <EMBED FlashVars=”zoomifyImagePath=jiunuit” ) AND UPLOADED ZoomifyViewer.swf )
7. call the function anywhere in your template files, or (I DID THIS WITH <!– YDZOOM( http://www.superprofenchine.com/wp/wp-content/pics, 570, 428, jiunuit ) –>
AND I CAN’T GET IT WORKING…I MADE A MISTAKE SOMEWHERE BUT CAN’T FIND OUT…
THANK YOU IF YOU CAN HELP !

@Arnauld:
1) In the function call you need to specify the full path to the zoom data folder, including the folder name itself, like this:
<!– YDZOOM( http://www.superprofenchine.com/wp/wp-content/pics/jiunit, 570, 428, jiunuit ) –>
2) You don’t need the file “templatewebpage.html” at all, the plugin takes care of generating the Flash call.
The rest seems OK, it should work once you add the folder name.

thanks for the quick reply…I tried on another website with this
As you can see there http://www.allumettes.org/wp-content/pics/jiunuit/ the jinuit folder is uploaded
in the pics folder there are the jiunuit.jpg and ZoomifyViewer.swf
but still doesn’t work, could it be because of the theme I am using ??
Sorry to bother you

You don’t need to upload your original jpg image nor the ZoomifyViewer.swf file. The viewer is already included in the plugin directory. I would need the address of the page where you included the YDZOOM() special tag to see what the problem is.

Works great! Couple things I would add that would have made the process easier. In the installation instructions, explain the parameters better. I was a little confused with the name parameter and what exactly should go in it.
Also, I use photoshop, so if you want to use that player, you can just go inside the the plugins folder in wordpress and replace the “zoomifyViewer.swf” file with the one that photoshop exports.
Thanks for the plugin. 🙂

I gave your plugin a try but failed to get it to work. It doesn’t matter what my problem is but I really think you should put an example of its use on your own web site as the example you site doesn’t exist anymore. Also, as others have pointed out, your plugin is only useful to a limited few who can actually figure out what your parameters mean and how to use them. The path and name parameters simply don’t make sense to me in your support effort above. It looks like “path” means the partial path to directory above the directory where the image data is located. It looks like “name” is the name of the directory where the image data subdirectory is located. While the name of the image is really the directory where the image data is located which is always the same: “TileGroup0” and “TileGroup1”.
Finally, when I upload my data via wordpress media link, subdirectories like “TileGroup0” gets automatically changed to all lower case “titlegroup0” so without reading through your php code in detail – I think there is just too many variables to figure out .

@Ron:
Sorry if my instructions are unclear. I did what I could to share some code that’s useful to me.
This plugin is very simple, and so is its use (imho). Please don’t think it’s more complicated than it is 😉
1) The fact that you have to specify a “name” parameter is inheritated from the Zoomify Flash applet parameters. I think that parameter is not useful if you have just one zoomable image per page, but still you need to specify something. So just specify whatever (simple) name you want, for identifying the applet. What you put in there has no importance whatsoever as long as it’s a unique alphanumeric id.
2) The other parameter is just what I said in the doc : the path to the folder that the Zoomify executable creates for you. You can change that folder’s name as long as it matches exactly what you specify in the function call.
However if you change anything inside that folder (like renaming everything to lowercase), I don’t know if it will work: this depends entirely on Zoomify. I have no relationship whatsoever with that company, so you’ll have to check with their doc. Just to be safe, I would recommend transferring the generated folder “as is” without changing anything: you’d better use FTP or SSH/Sftp for that purpose, if your WP uploader messes things. The Zoomify program was not designed to work with WP in the first place… I just tried to make its inclusion in WP pages easier. Works for me and a few others. Sorry if it does not for you.
3) Here are again a few page examples, they are still online and I manage that site btw. (I have no example on my own blog because no point for it!)
http://www.nogent-citoyen.com/cartes/zppaup
http://www.nogent-citoyen.com/projet/rer-a/le-quartier-baltard-rer-a-selon-eiffage-immobilier
@Other users: if you have page examples including a zoomified image in WP, please post them here for all to see! Thanks!
4) I welcome any attempt at writing a better doc for this plugin, and would be happy to package a new release with that doc.

Here is my WordPress blog post that uses Zoomify in a couple different places http://www.scottpetrovic.com/blog/2009/04/how-to-do-art-workshops/
(sorry for the slow flash in the background. I need to work on that tonight).
le 18 May 2009 à 23:56 h
I see the posts above and am trying again. Most of my problems are of my own doing – I am close to solving the problem now as I stoped uploading the zoomify files with wordpress media upload [which converts upper case file names to lower case]. Now I can get zoomify to work on my web site and your plug-in itself to work. If I could only figure out what “name” and “path” actually mean – I think I will get your plugin to work.
le 19 May 2009 à 1:09 h
OK it works – thank you YD and Scot.
After getting the basic plug-in to work – I see the fault was 99% my own as described in my post above. For others who may get stuck as I did, here are my steps to success:
1) install yd-zoomify as documented in wordpress.org/extend/plugins/yd-zoomify/
2) create my zoomify image using photoshop -> export -> zoomify
3) upload the zoomify files and directory structure created by zoomify:
some_dir
vrig_img
TitleGroup0
TitleGroup1
ImageProperties.xml
3 note) Photoshop Zoomify export also puts a flash file named zoomifyViewer.swf into the vrig_img directory. This file will not be needed and will not be used by YD-zoomify plugin. Although you can replace the file of same name inside YD-zoomify plugin – as I have done – to get the photoshop style display. Also photoshop -> zoomify export creates an html launcher file in the directory above vrig_img. This file too is not used as YD-zoomify replicates this same flash launching service.
4) in my blog post I put the following html code:
4 note) only the code line is requried.
I hope this helps others to get over learning curve. You can see the code in action here:

PS: I posted a rating of your plugin on the wordpress.org site. The rating system is broken in IE8, I had to switch to firefox to rate your plugin. I suppose the wordpress.org rating system in general is broken for ie8 and a reason why your plugin [and my wpmathpub] plugin get so few people posting a rating.
Thanks again,
Ron
le 19 May 2009 à 1:27 h
@Ron:
Yes, the rating system on WP.org does not work with IE.
“path” means “complete http path (ie. URL) to the zoomified media folder on your site”. It is the first parameter to the function call.
“name” means “anything you like, as long as it’s unique and html-valid”. It is the fourth parameter.
Hope it finally worked as you expected.
Thanks for the rating.

Hi, I’m trying to use the YD-zoomify plugin in a page template. I want use a custom field to supply the path of the folder, but I don’t know how to get the variable into the function (I don’t know php code at all, btw). Is this possible?
Here’s what I have tried. This code makes the Zoomify box appear, but the image to be zoomed doesn’t appear. I already put in the correct URL for my “zoom-url” custom field within WordPress.

I need some help with this plug in and word press….
I am not familiar with how to do: In the function call you need to specify the full path to the zoom data folder, including the folder name itself, like this:

THANK YOU for creating this most useful plug-in.
I wonder if you might please extend its functionality by adding a couple of useful parameters? If you look at:
http://www.voicesfromthedawn.com/wp-content/sites/loughGur/leaning.html
(click on bottom image)
you will notice that this zoomify viewer (taken from full install of Zoomify) has no small inset navigator AND allows full-screen viewing using button on lower right. It does this using these parameters (redacted) called from the page:
But with your plugin on this page
http://studentdev.jour.unr.edu/test/?p=257
I cannot figure out how to send the parameters to eliminate the little navigator box nor can I figure out how to allow the full-screen functionality.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The paramters were removed from my post. Here’s another try:

Hi and thanks for you plugin. Usually I use openzoomviewer beacuse is faster but the chance to insert in page a gigapixel is so exciting. so I use two version: the first with you plugin and the second under a lik which invites to open in a new window the same (but with openzoomviewer) Can you update your plugin to let me use only openzoomviewer in a post?

I would like to try to use your plug-in, but I cannot determine how to “upload” the plugin or zoomify directories to WordPress. I checked their support info and saw that FTP access is not allowed and the WordPress file upload utilities do not says they support the needed filetypes for this. How do I get started?
Thanks!
le 9 June 2011 à 9:44 h
@Jonathan: I’m afraid if you do not have file-level access to your site, you will not be able to use this plugin.

I have installed the plugin, and upload the zoomify image directory to wp_content/uploads/ and added the code in my wordpress post but nothing appears in the preview post. I’m using WordPress 3.1.4. How to fix this Yan Dubois?
le 3 July 2011 à 3:18 h
I think I have everything correctly installed and set up. However… on my page, all I see is the ZOOMIFY logo in place of my actual image.
Can someone figure out what I am doing incorrectly.
